Forced Air Systems
A common type of heating system in Atlantic Canada is the forced-air system
with a furnace as its heat source, and ducts and registers for distribution.
Advantages of Forced Air Systems:
- ability to provide heat quickly
- can be used to filter and humidify household air
- can provide ventilation and central air conditioning
- can be used year-round for continuous air circulation throughout the house
Disadvantages of Forced Air Systems:
- temperature of air coming from heating registers can vary
- air can sometimes feel cool (especially with certain heat
pumps), even when it’s actually warmer than the room
temperature
- can be short bursts of hot air
- ductwork may transmit noise of furnace and fan
- may circulate dust, as well as cooking and other odours,
throughout the house
