For this reason, ground-source heat pumps have become known as earth energy systems, or GEOTHERMAL. Heat is removed from the earth by using a liquid, such as ground water; the liquid’s temperature is raised by the heat pump, and the heat is transferred to indoor air. Ground source heat pump systems (GEOTHERMAL) can be used with forced air and hydronic heating systems. They can be designed for ‘heating only’, or ‘heating with passive cooling’.
