Air Conditioning

We all love our warm summer weather... the warmth of the sun’s rays on our skin and a hint of a gentle breeze. But, when the high humidity sets in combined with elevated temperatures, it can sometimes produce an uncomfortable living and sleeping environment inside your home. An air-conditioner can alleviate these conditions by not only lowering the air temperature in your home, but by also lowering the humidity level inside your home.

When considering an air-conditioner for your home take the time to evaluate your needs so you get exactly what you want. Ask yourself, “Does my whole house need to be air-conditioned or would cooling in one or two rooms be sufficient?”

DID YOU KNOW?
By replacing your older air-conditioner with a new Energy Star qualified model you will use 30 to 40 percent less energy than with a model sold 10 to 15 years ago?

There are basically two types of air-conditioners.

1.Room Air Conditioners
These units are intended to cool only a small area, usually one room. Powered by electricity, they remove heat from your home during hot, humid weather and keep your space comfortable and cool. There is no ductwork required – the unit is simply mounted in a window opening or through a wall.

Before you make your final decision, make sure you contact a qualified air conditioning technician so they can provide an accurate cooling load for your needs.

2.Central Air Conditioners
These units are larger than room air-conditioning units and are intended to cool large spaces, usually the entire house. A central air-conditioner uses energy to take heat away, much like a refrigerator. With central air you will have a large compressor and outdoor coil located outdoors and these are connected to the indoor coil in your furnace by refrigerant lines. The same ductwork is used for both heating and cooling.

KERR SMART TIPS™ ON AIR CONDITIONING.

TIP #1: Cheaper usually means you’re not getting the most efficient equipment with the best warranty coverage, resulting in higher energy costs and possibly higher repair bills.

TIP #2: We recommend that you select a central air-conditioner with as high a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) as is practical within your budget. These higher SEER units have earned our Kerr Smart Energy™ designation. Have your professional technician contact Kerr for more details and pricing.

TIP #3: Do you have an electric, oil or conventional gas furnace with space heating costs of $1000 or more? If so, you should consider installing a heat pump instead of a central air-conditioner. Heat pumps provide cooling but also have the advantage of providing savings in heating costs during the winter – up to 60% where an electric furnace is the main source of heating. Your payback could be 5 years of less!

If you’d like to purchase an air-conditioner for your home or business but didn’t make room in your budget, no need to worry. Our Kerr Smart Financing™ program can make the purchase easy. Have your qualified air-conditioning technician contact us for details or click here to find out more.
